Garden Club

Teresa Burke Elementary School began the planning process of creating a garden on the school campus at the end of the 2012-2013 school year. During the 2013-2014 school year, the building and planting of the garden began. Garden boxes and a shed were built, an irrigation system was installed, and plants were planted. In future years, the garden will be used to teach classroom concepts in a real-world situation and after-school garden club will be established.

2nd Annual Garden Day 2015

Parents, students, and staff from Teresa Burke Elementary School met on a Saturday in March to paricipate in some beautification of our outdoor learning center. Workstations were built, flowers were planted, weed fabric was laid down, and a new gravel walkway was poured. Thank you to all who helped out on this project!

Burke Receives School Grant, January 2015

In January of 2015, Paramount Farms made a donation to the Teresa Burke Elementary School Agricultural Education program for approximately $6,400. These funds will be used to beautify the garden with new plants and purchase garden supplies and lab equipment such as a composter, microscopes, work stations, umbrellas, rain barrels, thermometers, and soil tester kits. In addition, the funds will be used to host community volunteer days to work on projects for the garden. The Teresa Burke Elementary staff and students would like to thank Paramount Farms for their support.

Garden's First Harvest, Summer 2014

After the garden was constructed, seeds were planted, and six months later the garden produced many flowers and vegetables.

The slideshow below consists of pictures from a parent/student volunteer work day in the garden. On this Saturday, many parents and students came to school and helped construct the garden boxes, fill them with soil, and prepare the garden for planting.
